Josef Kala - Doctoral Psychotherapist in Training

Josef Kala

Josef is a trainee psychotherapist at EASE Wellbeing and is currently working towards a Doctorate by Professional Studies in Existential Psychotherapy and Counselling at the New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Fordham University and was part of a therapy and counselling team for five months in the Clinical Psychology department of a referral hospital in Botswana, where he trained as an intern in short-term interventions in clinical practice.

Josef served as a Research Assistant and micro-analysis coder for two years with the New York State Psychiatric Institute, studying early Mother-Infant Communication as a predictor of future attachment styles in later life. He thereafter worked towards a Master of Arts degree in Jungian and Post-Jungian Studies in the Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies, at the University of Essex. His MA dissertation, entitled “The Power to Dream”, explored the epistemological bases beneath traditional psychodynamic understandings of dreams – in an attempt to return to the experiential immediacy of a dream state with its ever-present individual nuances, prior to having dreams utilized for theoretical purposes. While at the University of Essex, he was actively involved with Nightline, a confidential student listening service providing access on-campus for students after hours during term time.

Josef is also CELTA certified as an English teacher to adult speakers of other languages, and has volunteered in teaching English with immigrants both in New York and the Middle-East.
